1911 – 2004

LEWISTON – Leonie R. Belleville, 92, formerly of Lewiston and Jay, died Monday morning, March 1, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

Born March 31, 1911, in St. Antonin, P.Q., Canada, she was the daughter of Ernest and Claudia Martin Lavoie. She was educated in Canadian schools. She married Camille Belleville in 1935, and he died Nov. 27, 1974.

She worked as the head changer at Bates Mill until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church and Horizons 55. She enjoyed crafts, knitting, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and making braided rugs.

She made clothes and afghans for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Donald Belleville and his wife Mary of Auburn; a daughter, Dorothy Chouinard and her husband John Jr. of Jay; seven grandchildren, John Chouinard III of Bucksport, Pam Heird of Chesterfield, Va., Stephen Belleville, Julie Corey, and Tina Fitzherbert all of Presque Isle, Scott Belleville of Hampton, Va., and Christopher Belleville of Auburn; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; sisters, Dolores Labonte of New Hope, Pa., and Helene Gosselin of Lewiston; brothers, Charles and Ernest Lavoie both of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
