1911 – 2004

NORWAY – Retired Lt. Colonel Louise Wentworth Hooper, 92, of South Paris, former administrator of Bridgton Hospital and a world traveler, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 29, at Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, after a brief illness.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., April 23, 1911, the daughter of Elmer G. and Alice Pote Hooper, she attended schools in New York and graduated from Syracuse University in 1933. She received her R.N. from Mt. Vernon Hospital at Mt. Vernon, N.Y. School of Nursing.

She faithfully served her country during World War II and the Korean War in the U.S. Army and then the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service.

She became director of nursing at Bridgton Hospital in 1964, advancing to administrator for five years before her retirement. She was a member of the Floyd Harlow Post V.F.W., the Oxford Chapter Order of Eastern Star and the Paris Cape Historical Society.

She was quite a lady. She enriched the lives of all who knew her. To say that she will be missed by everyone is an understatement. Words cannot adequately describe what a wonderful lady she was, but to all who knew her one simple statement says it all, “Louise was Louise!”

Survivors include a brother, Robert (Bob) Hooper and his wife, Kay of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia; a nephew, Bobby Hooper of Hawaii; a niece, Jean Hunt of Vancouver, B.C.; and a great-nephew, Justin.
