Financial seminar
PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce will hold a financial seminar from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday, March 11, in the forum at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. It is one in a series held in conjunction with American Express Financial Advisors. The subject is Tax Planning: Finding Missed Opportunities in Your Tax Return. The seminar is free, and a continental breakfast will be served before the start. Chris Walker, a financial planner with American Express will host the seminar. He explained that no matter what size a business is, there are sizable advantages in the new tax changes. The recently enacted Job Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 promises to deliver tax savings to nearly every American. The seminar will provide practical information about tax-rate reductions; child credit increase, marriage penalty relief, education incentives, estate-tax repeal, retirement plan provisions, and alternative minimum tax relief. Dana Chandler, chamber vice president and chairman of the Business Relations and Development Committee, the monthly seminars are intended to provide businesses, employees and individuals throughout the community with insight into investment planning. Lenten lunch
PARIS – The Lenten Luncheon series continues at noon, Thursday, March 4, at the Deering Memorial United Methodist Church. The sermonette will be delivered by the Rev. Walter Webb, pastor of the church. The menu will offer soup, salad and a sandwich. The sermon title for Sunday’s 10 a.m. March 7 church service is “Compassion for a Tree,” presented by Webb. The church is located at the corner of Main and Church streets.
Potluck supper
