SUNRISE, Fla. – Patrik Elias scored two second-period goals, and Scott Gomez had a goal and four assists to lift the New Jersey Devils past the Florida Panthers 5-2 Wednesday night.

Brian Gionta and Scott Niedermayer also scored for New Jersey, and Martin Brodeur had 27 saves as the Devils broke a three-game losing streak.

Marcus Nilson and Juraj Kolnik scored for Florida and Roberto Luongo had 22 saves in two periods. Steve Shields came on to make 10 saves and allowed Gomez’s goal at 7:06 of the third period that stretched New Jersey’s lead to 5-2.

Elias’s second goal of the game at 19:33 of the second put the Devils ahead 4-1. On a two-on-one, Elias took a pass from Gomez in the right circle to the left of the crease and poked in the puck before Luongo could get back.

The Devils took a 3-1 lead at 15:19 during a five-on-three power play when Niedermayer’s wrist shot eluded Luongo.

New Jersey made it 2-1 just 1:15 into the second period. Elias got behind the Panthers defense, took a backhanded pass from Gomez and tipped in a shot.

Red Wings 2, Flames 1

DETROIT – Manny Legace made 28 saves to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.

One of Legace’s biggest saves was a pad stop on Craig Conroy’s shot from the bottom of the right circle a little over five minutes into the third period.

Henrik Zetterberg and Mark Mowers scored for Detroit.

Jarome Iginla had Calgary’s goal, and Roman Turek made 20 saves.

Flyers 5, Predators 2

PHILADELPHIA – Kim Johnsson had two goals and an assist, leading the Philadelphia Flyers to a 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday night.

Alexei Zhamnov and Tony Amonte each had a goal and two assists for the Flyers, who snapped a three-game winless streak. Philadelphia came in tied with three other teams for first place in the Eastern Conference.

Robert Esche, who missed 10 games with a left knee injury, stopped 22 shots to record his first victory since Jan. 31. His best save came when he smothered a shot by Denis Arkhipov midway through the first period.

Sabres 4, Senators 3

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Miroslav Satan scored with 7:45 left, helping the Buffalo Sabres end a four-game losing streak with a 4-3 win Wednesday night over the Ottawa Senators.

Chris Drury had two goals, and Maxim Afinogenov also scored for the Sabres, who bounced back from Saturday’s 7-1 loss at Ottawa. Satan added two assists for Buffalo, outscored 23-6 in its last four games. The Sabres finished 3-1-2 against Ottawa this season, 2-0-1 record at Buffalo.

Daniel Alfredsson scored twice and Marian Hossa once for the Senators, who entered in a four-way tie for first place in the Eastern Conference but slipped behind Philadelphia.

Stars 4, Blue Jackets 2

DALLAS – Bill Guerin scored three goals and Ron Tugnutt stopped 15 shots in a rare start as the Dallas Stars stretched their home unbeaten streak to 12 games with a 4-2 victory Wednesday night over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Guerin registered his third hat trick of the season to reach the 30-goal mark for the fourth time.

Dallas improved to 8-0-4 in its last 12 home games, the NHL’s longest current streak.

Lightning 5, ‘Hawks 3

CHICAGO – Brad Richards had a goal and two assists, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-3 Wednesday night for their sixth straight win.

Vincent Lacavalier, Cory Sarich and Ruslan Fedotenko each had a goal and an assist for the Lightning, 9-0-0-2 in their last 11 games and 21-2-1-4 in 28. Fredrik Modin also scored for Tampa Bay. The Lightning are tied with Philadelphia atop the Eastern Conference with 86 points, two ahead of Toronto and Ottawa. Martin St. Louis and Brad Richards each had two assists, and Nikolai Khabibulin made 27 saves.

for the Lightning. Tampa Bay has a conference-high 37 victories, one short of the team record set in the 1995-96 season.

Mark Bell, Kyle Calder and Anton Babchuk scored for Chicago, winless in four games (0-2-2). Babchuk’s goal was his first in the NHL.

Chicago’s Adam Munro, playing his second NHL game, stopped 25 shots.
