BETHEL – Members of the newly-formed Ordinance Review Committee are to meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in the town office for continued review of the shoreland zoning ordinance.

Planning Assistant Elizabeth Cooper said the group – Chairman John Gray, David Luxton, Larry Engdahl, Reggie Brown, Haley Tripp and Walley Hannigan, are to review inconsistencies between the shoreland zoning map and its ordinance.

“Some of the land on the map was categorized as being resource protected when it shouldn’t be,” Cooper said Wednesday. “Conversely, there are some areas that are not protected that possibly should be.”

One item the committee will determine is whether or not they can structure the ordinance under Maine law so that the map is a guide and the ordinance is the law, rather than the other way around.

“Currently, with the ordinance, if something isn’t right on the map, it becomes very cumbersome in dealing with it,” Cooper added.
