LEWISTON – An open Community Conversation about Mel Gibson’s controversial film, “The Passion of the Christ,” will be held Sunday, March 7.

The meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. at the Lewiston Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St., and is open to the public. It is cosponsored by the Lewiston/Auburn Interfaith Clergy Association and the Many and One Coalition.

Co-moderators of the public discussion will be professor Abraham Peck, president of Interfaith Maine and director of the Academic Council for Post-Holocaust Christian, Jewish and Islamic Studies; and retired professor Ted Campbell, formerly professor of Old Testament studies at McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Ill., and a member of the Board of the Maine Council of Churches.

Also participating will be professors Robert Allison and Marcus Bruce of Bates College, the Rev. Jerry Begin of Spirit of Fire Evangelistic Ministries in Lewiston, and Cantor Hillel Katzir, spiritual leader of Temple Shalom Synagogue in Auburn.

People are encouraged to share their thoughts about this controversial film, while hearing the thoughts of others.
