BOSTON (AP) – Paul Pierce scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had eight assists to lead the Boston Celtics to their fourth straight win, 94-90 over the Washington Wizards on Friday night.
Ricky Davis scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and Mark Blount added 17 points for the Celtics, whose winning streak is their longest under interim coach John Carroll. They won five straight in December.
Gilbert Arenas had his fourth consecutive strong game, leading Washington with 26 points. He averaged 29.5 in his previous three.
It was the Wizards’ second loss in their last six games and dropped them to 6-23 on the road.
Boston, which trailed 65-60 after three quarters, opened the fourth with a 6-0 run ending with Davis’ fast-break layup. After the Wizards went ahead 68-66, the Celtics took the lead for good with a 14-7 run over the ensuing 5:34. Davis had six points in the spree.
During the run, Pierce was knocked out of bounds after a loose ball and slapped high fives with fans in the first two rows as he walked down the aisle to the baseline.
The Wizards cut it to 89-87, but Pierce hit two free throws with 16.3 seconds left. Juan Dixon then nailed a 3-pointer for Washington with 13.8 to play before Pierce hit two more from the line.
