LEWISTON – After reviewing the portfolio’s of seven nominated high school hockey seniors, the Maine High School Hockey Coaches’ Association has pared down the list of finalists to three for the Travis Roy Award, which is given annually to the top senior in the state.

Included in the final three is Edward Little High School’s Kyle Smith. The other finalists are Dan Bartlett of North Yarmouth Academy and Mark Rogers of Mt. Ararat.

Four other skaters, Scott Geoffroy of Lewiston, Kevin Marchesi of Cheverus, Phil Pinkham of Massabesic and Brandon Wohl of South Portland, were nominated for the award.

Last year’s winner, Nate Hart of Waterville, is currently enrolled at the University of Maine, where he is attempting to be a walk-on to the Black Bears’ squad.

The Travis Roy Award is given to a student for overall achievement in hockey, in the community, and in school. Travis Roy, a former North Yarmouth Academy skater, went on to play at Boston University.

Eight seconds into his first collegiate shift, Roy fell into the boards at an and became paralyzed.

He eventually graduated from BU and currently works in Boston.
