LEWISTON – A patrolman injured in a bar brawl is expected to be back to work Sunday.
Officer Todd MacWhinnie received 12 stitches in his forehead to close a gash he got from a beer bottle thrown during a fight at the Acme Club on Park Street early Saturday morning.
“He had a slight headache today, but expects to be back to work tomorrow,” said Lt. Michael McGonagle on Saturday.
MacWhinnie was responding to the fight just before 1 a.m. when he was struck by a ricocheting beer bottle. Arrested at the scene was Shane Libby, 23, 49 Hemlock St., of Sabattus. Libby faces charges of reckless conduct, assault on an officer and trafficking prison contraband; the last two charges are felonies.
McGonagle said drugs were found on Libby when he was booked at the Androscoggin County Jail, which led to the contraband charge. Libby was released on $1,000 bail.
