WALES – Lakeside Chapter, OES, will hold its annual meeting and election of officers after the 6:30 p.m. covered dish supper on Tuesday, March 9, at the Wales Grange/Masonic Hall. Members are reminded to bring and a covered dish to share.

Venturing club

AUBURN – Abenaki Scout District Executive Matt Mower announces that the Lost Valley Mountain Sports Club, a venturing club sponsored by Lost Valley, is looking for members and leaders as it plans activities.

Anyone ages 14 to 20 who is interested in skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking and camping is invited to attend a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Lost Valley.

Robin Dow

AUBURN – Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, Washington Street. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. A St. Patrick’s party will be followed by bingo. There will be the usual raffle table.

Sixty-nine members were present at the Feb, 25 meeting led by President Dorothy Larrabee. Sylvia Pacios was welcomed as a new member. Those having birthdays in February were recognized. Evelyn Rose and Burleigh Edwards won attendance prizes; Kay Koss, Lee Koss and Leigh Whittle, pot of gold.

Trip Chairwoman Evelyn Sawin reported the bus will leave at 9 a.m. Friday, March 12, for the Indian Head Resort, Lincoln, N.H., from Post 31. There are a few seats still available; cost is $43. Anyone interested can phone her at 998-4577 or Lee Koss at 783-6396.

Tickets will be sold at the March 10 and March 24 meetings for $6 each for the Easter ham dinner April 14 to be prepared by member Lucien Marcoux at the Legion Hall. Dues must he paid in order to attend.

Though the matter was discussed, plans for the Thanksgiving dinner remain indefinite.

LEWISTON – A Look Good … Feel Better American Cancer Society program for assisting women who are faced with appearance changes resulting from cancer treatment will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Central Maine Medical Center’s Cynthia A. Rydholm Cancer Treatment Center.

A volunteer from the National Cosmetology Association will teach a small group of women how to apply cosmetics specific to their individual needs.

Hair and wig styling will also be discussed. Wigs are available through purchase or loan. Each participant will be given a complimentary bag of cosmetics made available through the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation.

Grange program

AUBURN – Danville Junction Grange 65 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at the hall. A St. Patrick’s Day program will be presented. All members are asked to bring a green object and be prepared to tell about it. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.

Literary speaker

AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St. Featured speaker will be Jane Roux, a dollmaker, who will discuss “Bring Back a Simpler Time.”

A Cappella-thon

POLAND – Celebrate Music in Our Schools Month by attending the Poland Regional High School Music Department’s “A Cappella-thon” at 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, in the school auditorium.

It will feature the following musicians: the Megalomaniacs and Colbyettes from Colby College, a professional Sweet Adeline quartet; the Vocal Solution, a local adult a cappella group; and Poland Regional High School’s Sopraltos and Akafellas. The groups specialize in different styles of a cappella singing.

UCT to install

AUBURN – Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America, will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Odd Fellows Hall on Elm Street. Installation of officers will be held, and a potluck dinner will be served after the meeting. Members and guests are welcome.

DAR meeting

BOWDOIN – Regent Jayne Bickford announces that Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at her home. After a business meeting, a silent auction will be held to benefit the chapter’s treasury and its work.

AUBURN – Leah Costlow, seventh-grader on team three, has been notified that she will represent Auburn Middle School at the state geography bee on Friday, April 2, at the University of Maine in Orono.

Costlow won the local competition in January and took a national qualifying test to advance to the state geography bee.

Each state winner will advance to the national geography bee in Washington, D.C., on May 25 and 26.

Spring potluck

AUBURN – The Japan America Society of Maine will celebrate the coming of spring at a potluck supper from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 757 Summer St.
