INDUSTRY – The 37 different articles on this year’s town meeting warrant may not draw as much disagreement between people as in the past.

But Industry’s population of about 1,200 residents and 800 registered voters rarely share the same opinions. The annual town meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 13.

“The one thing we tried to do this year was become more specific in the warrant in order to give the citizens more information to base their votes on,” said Town Clerk and Treasurer Cathy Frazier.

A hot topic in this year’s town warrant is the suggested purchase of a new multipurpose truck to better maintain the hard to reach side roads. The one-ton truck will be equipped with four-wheel drive, dump body, sander and 9-foot plow. Using the remaining $7,861.17 in the Dump Body Account as a down payment, the town officials seek to finance the new truck for six years at the cost of no more than $7,000 a year.

Also in the warrant are proposals dealing with the maintenance and improvement to the beach front area at Clearwater Lake and the construction of a holding tank toilet in the town parking lot.

In hopes of attracting more residents, particularly the elderly, this year’s meeting has been switched to 2 p.m. as opposed to the 7 p.m. time last year. “The turnout is normally a good one, and with this change in times, we hope to attract more concerned citizens,” said Frazier.

Running for the unopposed selectman positions are incumbents Earl Ireland, Caroline Eaton and Rob Geisser. Martha Wing is running for the role of tax collector without competition, while Frazier seeks to regain the positions of town clerk and treasurer. The last position to be filled is that of road commissioner, which Joe Paradis seeks to fill once again.

The moderator for the afternoon meeting will be chosen earlier in the morning and is expected to be local lawyer, Paul Mills. The meeting, as well as voting, will be held at the Town Hall and polls open at 8 a.m and close at 1 p.m.
