LIVERMORE FALLS – An “area coaches’ dream team” plans to take to the basketball court against the famous Harlem Rockets Thursday night.
It sounds as if it will be a night of laughs beginning at 7 p.m. at the Livermore Falls High School gymnasium when the dream team tries to beat the Rockets at their comical maneuvers.
The Harlem Rockets, a comedy basketball team, was formed in 1993 by retired Gen. George Mitchell. Mitchell had worked for the Harlem Magicians for several years before leaving to form his own team.
The benefit game will raise money for the girls’ basketball program. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door.
During the day on Thursday, the team members will be going to local schools and talking to the kids about staying in school, staying away from drugs and alcohol, and giving other positive messages, said booster Jef Howell.
Teachers and coaches from SAD 36’s three schools will be playing against the visitors. These include Margaret Leclerc, Debbie Finley and Ken Jones who also played against the Rockets last year.
