1921 – 2004

LEWISTON – Harvey J. Gilbert, 82, of the Intown Manor, Ash Street, died Saturday, March 6, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Born in South Bend, Ind., Dec. 25, 1921, he was the son of Harvey and Florence Vite Gilbert Sr.

During World War II, Mr. Gilbert was an Army prisoner of war. For many years he worked for the Dana Corp, an automobile parts manufacturer in Fort Wayne, Ind., until retiring. In 1995 he moved to Maine.

He was a member the Lewiston American Legion Post 22.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha Winslow and her husband, David of Dresden; two brothers, Richard Gilbert of Stevens, Wash., and Donald Gilbert of Friendship, Wisc.; a sister, Betty Rhoda of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Gilbert was predeceased by his wife, Dora E. Hinsch Gilbert in the mid 90s.
