1922 – 2004

FAYETTE – Louis Cornelio, 81, of Jay, died peacefully with family by his side, late Sunday evening, March 7, at the home of his granddaughter, where he had been living for the past year.

He was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Riley, a son of Bernadino and Alice (Angelo) Cornelio. He attended Riley and Jay schools.

On July 20, 1942, he married Mary E. Welch. They lived in Dixfield and Wilton during the early years of their marriage before making their home on the Crash Road in Jay for over 40 years.

In 1943, he left the area to serve his country in the U.S. Army in Company B of the 49th Signal Communication Corps until 1945.

Mr. Cornelio was self-employed in various businesses from 1955 until his retirement in 1998 after 28 years owning and operating Louis Tire out of his home on the Crash Road in Jay.

He was a member of the Maine Lodge 20 AF&AM of Farmington and the Farmington American Legion. He also attended the Jay Baptist Church.

He loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, playing cards, going to the dog races in Seabrook, N.H., haying and working on his farm.

He is survived by his mother, Alice of Farmington; two sons, Keith and his wife Shirley of Jay and Bruce and his wife Paula of Brockton, Mass.; four brothers, Peter of Jay, Johnny and his wife Arlene of Jay, Jimmy and his wife Paula of Brunswick and Spring Hill, Fla., and Tommy and his wife Patty of Jay; six sisters, Mary Belskis of Farmington, Millie Belskis of Rumford, Rose Labbe of Jay, Angie Lowe and her husband Donald of Wiscasset, Louise Oakes and her husband Donald of Wilton, and Gloria Tardif and her husband Richard of Jay; five granddaughters, Randi and her husband Chris Marble of Poland, Deana and her husband Kenneth Albert of Lewiston, Barbara and her husband Douglas Jackson of Livermore Falls, Ann and her husband Kenneth Towle of Fayette, and Teresa and her husband William Legere of Auburn; and 14 great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Jacob and Katherine Marble, Kathryn and Nathan Albert, Lakin and Tony Jackson, Tayla, Jaime, Emma and Abigail Towle, Grace, Sarah and Deanna Legere.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary on Nov. 12, 1999; and his father, Bernadino.
