1936 – 2004

LEWISTON – Monique M. Pineau, 67, of 40 Franklin St., Lewiston, died Sunday, March 7, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Born in Lewiston on Nov. 14, 1936, she was the daughter of Philippe and Raymonda Fortier Martineau. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School, Class of ’55, and later graduated from Rivier College in Nashua, N.H.

Prior to her retirement in 1996, she was employed at the Lewiston Middle School for many years. She served on numerous curriculum committees for Language Arts, and was also an academic team leader. During her 38 year teaching career, she touched the lives of generations of Lewiston youth. She will be remembered for making Greek Mythology fun and exciting.

On July 4, 1959, she was married to Gerard Pineau in Lewiston. A member of Ss. Peter & Paul Parish, she also belonged to the Maine Education Association, the National Education Association, the Red Hat Society, the YWCA, and the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary.

She loved traveling, spending time with family and friends at Sugarloaf/USA, painting, walking, reading, and was always ready for a game of Bonco. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren. Her sunny disposition and playful spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of Lewiston; her mother of Lewiston; a son, Robert and wife Susan of Portland; a daughter, Stephanie and husband Jack Gallagher of Nobleboro; three grandchildren, Brad Pineau, Nicole Pineau, and Tegan Gallagher; and many cousins.
