The Jay Police Department presented awards to two employees.

JAY – Police dispatcher Guy Iverson has been recognized as Employee of the Year by the Jay Police Department. Dean Couture was honored as Employee of the Quarter.

Iverson of Chesterville is a former Ames department store manager. He joined the force last year after store officials announced it was closing its stores.

Police Chief Larry White Sr. said he and Sgt. Charles Keene selected Iverson for all of the extra work he does.

He was “very instrumental” in revamping the dispatch area and has been working on standard operation procedures, which is “very detailed, tedious work,” White said.

“He’s very conscientious about his work,” he said.

Iverson is also responsible for making the over-sized map outlining all of Jay’s streets, roads, and so forth, that hangs on the police station wall and is visible from dispatch operations.

That map allows dispatchers and police to pinpoint within a quarter of a mile where residents are, White said.

It was his brainstorm, his ideas, White said, and the Police Department has benefited from it.

Iverson also gets along “extremely well with all employees,” the chief said.

“We’re extremely proud to have someone with his mentality and talent working for us,” White said. “He’s committed to public service.”

Dispatcher Dean Couture of Jay also received praise for his dedication to public service and dedication to the department from White and Keene during the quarter.

Couture was instrumental, White said, when the department had to change computers and services.

Couture now maintains the servers, White said, for the Department.

“He’s very outgoing,” White said.
