NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Mike MacDonald pitched eight innings, allowing just two hits, to lead the University of Maine to a 6-1 victory over St. Joseph’s Wednesday afternoon.
The Black Bears scored three runs in the first inning, but St. Joseph’s answer with one in the second inning. Maine added a run in both the second and third innings to take a 5-1 lead. The Black Bears closed out the scoring with a run in the sixth inning.
Matt McGraw led Maine with three hits. Mike Ferriggi and Joel Barrett each added two hits, while Simon Williams scored two runs for Maine. Greg Cheek drove home two runs for the Black Bears.
MacDonald struck out six St. Joseph’s batters. Ryan Brown pitched the ninth inning for Maine and allowed just one hit.
