Scott Owens is running in the March 13 election.

OXFORD – After serving 12 years on the Oxford Planning Board, the last two as chairman, Scott Owens has decided to run for selectman.

Owens’ name will be among those nominated from the floor at Saturday’s annual town meeting, he confirmed Tuesday.

Others running for the two vacant three-year seats are incumbent head Selectman David Ivey, Lois Pike and Dennis Heino.

Owens, 36, said his Planning Board service has given him insight into the workings of town government, working with people and running meetings. A lifelong resident, Owens is a self-employed carpenter and lives with his wife, Tanya, and two daughters on King Street.

“I’d just like to help lead the town into the future and help improve local government,” he said. If elected, he said he’d work to keep taxes down while still providing the essential services the town requires.

Owens said residents can count on him to be honest and to “do what I say I’m going to do.”

The town meeting starts at 10 a.m. at Oxford Elementary School.
