LARGO, FLA. – Dr. Robert W. Greenfield, 78, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Wednesday, March 3, at Largo Medical Center.
Born in Duluth, Minn., he was a long-time resident of St. Petersburg. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and a doctorate in sociology and anthropology from Ohio State University.
He held positions at Ohio State University, Rollins College, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Florida Presbyterian (now Eckerd) College and was department chairman at Boston University and Georgia Southern University. He retired from active teaching in 1989, but continued his original research and writing in the field of ethnopsychiatry, until his recent illness.
He was an avid HAM radio operator and is now a silent key. He was a member of the Religious Society of Friends. Other memberships include The Mayflower Society, Scottish Heritage Society and the Academy for Senior Professionals at Eckerd College (ASPEC).
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Marguerite “Peggy” Wood; a son, Douglas Greenfield of Altadena, Calif.; a daughter, Gail Collins of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Lois Pedersen of St. Augustine Beach, Fla.; and a grandson, Robert Chase Greenfield.
