CANTON – Diane and Rick Ray were elected as delegates and Tom Gerrety was chosen as an alternate at the Canton Republican Party caucus held Tuesday.

The purpose of the caucus was to elect delegates to attend the GOP Maine State Convention on May 14 and 15 in Augusta.

Clint Conant was caucus chairman.

Janet Davis and Jackie Conant were elected as ballot clerks to work the polls during the November elections.

Legion birthday

RUMFORD – The American Legion will be celebrating their birthday with a supper at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at the Legion Post Home on Congress Street.

Support group

MEXICO – People who have suffered the loss of a loved one and need a way to express how they feel that is safe and confidential may be interested in a new grief support group.

The group is open to everyone. Meetings will be Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m to 11 a.m. starting Tuesday, March 16, in the Congregational Church’s conference room.

St. Patrick’s party

RUMFORD- People can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with SeniorsPlus on Wednesday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. Richard Haines & Friends will entertain; dinner will be at 11:30 a.m. The menu will include corned beef and cabbage with potatoes, carrots, Irish soda scones, leprechaun dessert and beverages.

The cost is a donation of $3.50 for people 60 and older, their spouses, disabled people and volunteers. It’s $5 for those under 60. It will include door prizes, a 50-50 raffle, hats and party favors.

Snowmobilers needed

MEXICO – The Snowmobile Club is looking for people who live and ride snowmobiles in the Mexico area. Without new people to come forward and take on an officer’s position to help run the club, the club could be in jeopardy of shutting down, according to a spokesman. There are two meetings left this season to vote on an officer’s position. The spokesman said the group needs help keeping the club together to maintain trail systems. The next meeting is 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, downstairs in the Mexico Town Hall.

Alzheimer group

RUMFORD – The monthly Alzheimer Support Group will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at 85 Lincoln Ave., Rumford Armory.

RUMFORD – The men and women of the class of 1954 of Stephens High School will meet for a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Sam’s on Route 2 in the Virginia section of Rumford. A report on the class reunion will be given.

Historical society

RUMFORD – The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, in the Conference Room of the Municipal Building. Following the business meeting, guest speaker Pat Stewart, a local author, will present her new book titled “Mollyockett.” Stewart, a former high school and college teacher and business woman, retired with her husband to Greenwood where she paints and writes. Her book describes the life of Mollyockett, the last of the Pequawket Indians, born in Fryeburg (c1738) and died in Andover in 1816. “Mollyockett Day” is celebrated every summer in Bethel. Books will be available for sale and refreshments will be served. The public is invited.
