WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Julie Veilleux drained a team-high 15 points to lead the University of Maine to a 62-49 win over Albany to advance to the championship game of the America East women’s basketball tournament.

The Black Bears (24-6) jumped out to a comfortable 33-18 halftime margin, and used a 10-2 run midway through the second half to put the game out of Albany’s reach.

Two-time America East Player of the Year Heather Ernest chipped in with 12 points and hauled down 11 rebounds to register a double-double for the top-ranked Black Bears.

Jen Schumacher scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Great Danes (13-16) scoring attack.

The Black Bears play Boston University in Saturday’s championship game.

Scranton 68, Wittenberg 51

BRUNSWICK – Kate Pierangeli and Tara Gemmel scored 17 points apiece to lead Scranton University to a 68-51 victory over Wittenberg University in the semifinal round of the Northeast Sectional NCAA Division III Women’s basketball tournament held at Bowdoiun College.

The Royals (27-2) built a 33-24 lead at the end of the first half behind the hot hands of Pierangeli and Gemmel and were never pushed in the second half as they cruised to the win.

The Tigers (25-6) were paced by Amber Bishop with a team-high 15 points.

Scranton will square off against Bowdoin on Saturday, with the winner advancing to the Div. III Final Four.
