FARMINGTON – The Foothills Arts Center’s Theater for Peace acting troupe will present their original piece, “I Am an Island,” during the center’s open house Sunday, March 14.
Sunday’s presentations are free and open to the public. They’re scheduled at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. in the building that formerly housed the offices of doctors Hurst and Weekley on Rt. 133.
The 20-minute performance, followed by a discussion with the audience, speaks to issues of particular concern to teens. However, people of all ages may identify with the theme of feeling alone or isolated.
The 12 student actors from area high schools created the piece during two months of after-school workshops led by actor-playwright Jeri Pitcher.
The Foothills Arts Center founded Theater for Peace in 1999. Each year students volunteer to participate, motivated by a desire to perform community service and by the opportunity to learn acting skills and make new friends.
The group writes and presents a new piece each year for middle school students in Farmington, Jay and Livermore Falls.
