PORTLAND – Martin Sonnenberg scored a pair of goals and added an assist and Tomas Kurka had one goal and two assists as the Lowell Lock Monsters downed the Portland Pirates 5-3 Friday.

Former Boston Bruin Shaone Morrisonn and Ivan Ciernik each had a goal and an assist for the Pirates.

The win moved Lowell (28-26-6-4) one point past Portland (23-24-12-7) into fifth place in the Atlantic Division standings with 66 points.

Lowell led 2-1 at the first intermission after Sonnenberg scored twice and Francois Methot answered for Portland.

Goals by Kurka and Chris McNamara made it 4-1 midway through the second period, but Portland narrowed the deficit to two when Morrisonn connected with 1:34 remaining.

Both teams scored once in the third period- Lynn Loyns for Lowell at 7:31 and Ciernik for Portland at 15:30.
