Those without a fishing license will have a chance to test the sport of fishing on the weekend of June 19-20. Anyone, except those whose license has been revoked or suspended, will be allowed to fish for free on those days on any Maine waters. All other fishing regulations will apply.
Twice each year, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife sets aside two weekends, one in the winter and one in the summer, as free fishing days. The idea is to introduce people to the sport of ice fishing and open water fishing. “These two days are a great way to get introduced to a lifetime hobby,” said Peter Bourque of the MDIFW. “Fishing is a great family sport.” – Glen Burgess
The ice fishing free weekend was observed Feb. 14-15.
