SOUTH PARIS – Green certification of forestland will be the topic of Thursday night’s meeting of the western Maine chapter of the Small Woodland Owner’s Association of Maine. Mandy Farrar, SWOAM’s certification administrator, will give a presentation on the group’s program at 7 p.m. March 18, in the Forum at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. The talk and PowerPoint presentation will explain the pilot certification program through the American Forest Foundation’s Tree Farm standards and what SWOAM hopes to accomplish in the future. SWOAM has certified more than 18,000 acres so far in the voluntary program. The meeting is open to all. The Forum is located near the front entrance. Signs will be posted. Firefighters’ race
BRIDGTON – A Fireman’s Race for Breast Cancer Research will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at Shawnee Peak Ski Resort, 734 Mountain Road. Fire departments from Maine and New Hampshire have been invited to participate in this modified giant slalom race. Each five-member team will be dressed in full gear, racing as a team and carrying a 50-foot fire hose. The money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Daffodil Days
OXFORD HILLS – The American Cancer Society will be hold Daffodil Days during the week of March 22 in the Oxford Hills area. Fresh daffodils will be sold for $7 per bouquet at Hannaford in Oxford. Funds raised will support the society’s local service programs for cancer patients and their families.
