1927 – 2004

FARMINGTON – William H. Hines Jr., 76, a longtime resident of Livermore Falls, died Monday, March 15, at Sandy River Nursing Home following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on May 29, 1927, in Jay, the son of William Sr. and Catherine M. Souleyreau Hines and was educated in the Livermore Falls schools.

During World War II, he served in the Army Air Force stationed in the Pacific from 1945 to 1946. On May 27, 1948, he married the former Ernestine Whitcomb and raised their family in Livermore Falls.

He worked as a truck driver for 31 years for Rand & Moore Oil Co. in Livermore Falls and Ouellette’s Oil Co. in Jay. He later worked for Bridge Construction Co. as a truck driver.

He loved to spend time with his family and always enjoyed a good game of cribbage. He also enjoyed his time as resident handyman at the Park Street Apartments in Livermore Falls. He was a former member of the American Legion, Post 10 of Livermore Falls.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Copeland and her husband Gary of Fayette and Debra Davis and her husband Stan of Fayette; a son, Jeffrey Hines and his wife Susan of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a sister, Henrietta Dill of East Hartford, Conn.; five grandchildren, Lisa Brochu, Tina Losey, Adam and Nicole Hines and Christopher Hines; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; he will be missed by his longtime companion, Frances Schmidt of Livermore Falls.

He was predeceased by a son, William Hines III in 1968; and a sister, Frances Hines in 1998.
