OXFORD – A teen was listed in good condition at Central Maine Medical Center on Tuesday after being ejected from her car in a crash a day earlier.
Paris police Sgt. Michael Dailey said Lashawnda James, 19, of Oxford was driving west on Oxford Street when the crash occurred.
“The young lady was speeding and almost ran me off the road,” said Mark LaRoach. “The next thing you know her car went into a slide, was airborne and she flew out the driver’s side glass. I turned around, went back and called 911.”
Dailey said it appeared James had just come out of a turn and was partially in the other lane.
“She overcorrected, left the road and her car struck two trees as it came down on the driver’s side,” said Daily, a certified accident reconstructionist. “After she was ejected from the vehicle she landed between two trees her car struck.”
James was driving a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse, which was totaled.
She was originally taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway and later transferred to CMMC in Lewiston.
“Speed was a definitely a factor,” Dailey said. “The speed limit on that section is 35 miles per hour and it’s pretty windy through there.”
