WILTON – Wilton Development Corp. will work with state agencies on plans for the Bass Distribution Center, officials decided Tuesday.

The executive session was held prior to the regular selectmen’s meeting with members of the corporation, the Greater Franklin Development Corp. and Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments. They discussed an offer of the building to the town from owner Phillip Van Heusen Corp. The building is next to the town office on Weld Street and houses ICT, an inbound call center.

Town Manager Peter Nielsen said officials hope they will be successful in locating new owners for the facility and that new jobs will be created as a result. “Things are in progress. Conversations are going on. Stay tuned,” Nielsen said. He said the town will not be asked for taxpayer support.

Nielsen announced the resignation of Code Enforcement Officer Brenda Medcoff. He said Medcoff indicated that she has taken on extra responsibilities with the town of Chesterville that will afford her more hours. Her resignation is effective April 1.

Selectmen accepted the resignation and agreed to advertise for the position and contact certified code officers in the area. Interviews for the position will be handled by Nielsen and a selectman.

About this time last year, Medcoff resigned, but rescinded her resignation and stayed while pursuing work in forestry. She works part time as code enforcement officer for several area towns. She has worked for Wilton since David Giroux resigned nearly three years ago after officials refused to increase his hours.

Selectmen tabled the review of the 2004-05 proposed municipal budget until 7 p.m. March 30 at the town office. The total proposed municipal budget for 2004 is $2,436,509.

The tax rate is expected to rise to approximately $21.80 from $21.60. A higher town valuation would mean less of an increase in the tax rate, Nielsen said.

The town’s tax rate has been $21.60 for the past two years.
