MINOT – A public hearing on whether to close Old Woodman Hill Road at Minot Avenue is set for April 5.
Selectmen want a response from townspeople on the state highway department’s recommendation. While the primary recommendation is to close the road at the intersection with routes 121 and 11, the state offers a second option of making the road one way so traffic could pass from Minot Avenue up Old Woodman Hill Road to the top of the hill.
The hearing on the issue is set for 7 p.m. April 5 at the town office.
Road Manager Harlan Saunders reported to the board Tuesday that he intends to reclaim and pave Jackson Hill, Verrill and Goodwin roads and Grange Avenue and put a top coat on a portion of Garfield Road. The plan eliminates the portion of Pottle Hill Road from Hemond’s farm to Route 119 because of budget cuts made at the town meeting.
Selectmen approved Hews Truck Bodies’ bid of $4,000 for a new dump body for the town truck. Hews was the lowest of six bids.
Resident Dan Callahan Jr. asked selectmen what was being done to clean up campaign signs on some town roads.
Selectmen asked Town Administrator Gregory Gill to contact people who might have been responsible for putting them up.
Town Clerk Nikki Verrill advised dog owners they have until March 31 to license their dogs. She said in addition to the license fee, a $15 late fee is in effect until March 31. After that the late fee jumps to $25.
Gill told selectmen that earlier in the day he received a request from the Community Club for the town to apply for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to help build a playground at the Minot Consolidated School.
The Community Club has raised about $25,000 for a playground. This money would be used for the local match to a 50/50 grant.
Gill noted April 30 is the deadline for phase one and the completed application must be in by July 12.
Selectmen agreed to refer the proposal to a committee that is looking into the academic and recreational needs of the school.
The board elected Dean Campbell as chairman and Downing as vice chairman, and appointed John Geismar to a five-year term on the Planning Board, and Candace Benwitz and Richard Hemond as alternates.
