WOODSTOCK – Selectmen signed the warrant for the annual town meeting that is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 29. It will be held in the multipurpose room at the Woodstock Elementary School on Rumford Avenue.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield also announced the 2003 town reports are in and most have been delivered door to door by Inman Printing.

“Geof (printer Geof Inman) has delivered 500 copies,” Maxfield said, “which is most everyone except for a few places where he encountered dogs that weren’t very friendly and a few places where no one was home.”

Copies are available at the town office.

Selectmen decided to study the possibility of building a parking lot across Route 26 in Bryant Pond for use by people attending baseball games at Whitman Field during the summer.

For years there has been a problem with cars parked on each side of the heavily traveled state highway. As a result they are going to be looking at developing a parking area on land that was donated to the town a few years ago by developer Gordon Brown.

“It would be a good thing if we could have a place where people could park somewhere besides on Route 26, and I’ve thought about that piece of land across the road for sometime. I think we ought to take a look at it this spring and see if it can be leveled off and made available for people to use,” Selectman Leon Poland said.

Asked if he thought it could be done, Chairman Percy Monk said, “It wouldn’t be that much of a job to dig it out so people could park there, and I would say there would be room enough for 20 to 30 cars. I think it would be good idea. Let’s take a look at it later this spring when the snow is gone and see what it would take.”

Selectman Steve Bies agreed.

Maxfield told the board the Fire Department has submitted a grant application to the Gallan Cole Family Foundation for funds money for a thermal imaging camera. He said one costs between $15,000 and $20,000. If the application is approved the department will have to come up with $3,000.

“The money is available if the grant is OK’d,” Maxfield said.
