LIVERMORE – John Wakefield is seeking the Democratic nomination for state representative for House District 81 seat that represents Livermore, Livermore Falls, Leeds and Wayne.

“I am running to advocate for property tax relief, new job creation, increased state funding for education and improved oversight of state spending,” Wakefield said.

Wakefield, a graduate of Bryant College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, served as director of the state Fiscal and Program Review from September 1990 through October 1998.

He was the deputy director of that program from November 1987 to September 1990.

He retired from state government in 1998 with 27 years of service. During that time he also served as deputy commissioner of the Department of Human Services from May 1979 to November 1987 and as deputy commissioner of Mental Health and Corrections from June 1976 to May 1979.

Closer to home, Wakefield is a Livermore selectperson. Prior to that he was a member of the SAD 36 Board of Directors for 27 years.

Wakefield was also a member of Gov. John Baldacci’s budget transition team and a member of the Speaker’s Commission on Tax Reform.

Wakefield is currently the legislative and financial manager of the Maine Association of Retirees.
