The prohibition would not target cars or pick ups, only tractor-trailer trucks.

JAY – Town officials plan to get public input on banning larger vehicles from parking in front of the veterans war memorial on Main Street.

Town Manager Ruth Marden has the authority, with selectmen’s approval, to prohibit parking under the ordinance, but she wants to get feedback from the community, she said.

People have complained that when a tractor-trailer is parked at the monument it restricts the sight of motorists driving down Church and Jewell streets.

“It’s a blind spot,” Marden said. “You can’t see.”

Officials don’t want to restrict passenger cars or pickup trucks, she said, only the larger vehicles such as tractor-trailers.

Selectmen already approved no parking in the area on Main Street between a cellular phone business to C.N. Brown station last fall for safety reasons.

Marden said she plans to set up a public hearing on the matter soon. There are alternative spots for a larger truck to park, she added.
