FARMINGTON – An ice cream social will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 19, at the Fairbanks Union Church. The social is sponsored by the Fairbanks School Neighborhood Association.

Donations accepted will be used to help continue to rebuild the Fairbanks School Meeting House. The school burned in 1998.

Maple Days

LIVERMORE – Maple Days at the Norlands Living History Center will feature all you can eat pancakes served with pure maple syrup from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 20, and from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21. Visitors may choose to ride or walk to the sap house and experience the process of making maple syrup.

Starting with the collection of sap and taking it to the sap house, the public can then watch as the sap is turned into syrup by boiling it down. Participants may choose to eat the fruit of their labor prior to working or refuel after they have collected the sap and helped make the syrup.

The pancakes will be served in the Farmer’s Cottage and will cost $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under 10 years old. A charge of $1 will be taken for the ride to the sap house or participants may walk.

Dogsled demo

RANGELEY – A dogsled demonstration will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 22, at Haley Pond and will be followed by a presentation by Pam Flowers, Arctic explorer, at 7 p.m. at Rangeley Public Library. Arctic explorer Pam Flowers of Alaska will visit both the Rangeley Lakes Regional School and the Rangeley Public Library to give presentations. In addition, local musher Claudia Comstock will demonstrate mushing and offer rides with her dogsled team at Haley Pond.

Flowers holds many exploring distinctions, including the longest solo dog sled trek by a woman in recorded history, 2,500 miles across Arctic North America, and the first winter expedition to the Magnetic North Pole.

She has co-authored several books and has won distinction from numerous groups including a Gold Medal from the Society of Women Geographers. Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 864-5529.

FARMINGTON – Colonial Daughters Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at noon on Tuesday, March 23, at the Old South Congregational Church to honor deserving high school seniors from several schools in the Franklin County area with a Good Citizen award. A potluck luncheon will be served, followed by guest speaker Gwilym Roberts.

Health expo

RANGELEY – A Health and Caregiver Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 2 at the Congregational Church Barn Annex. SeniorsPlus and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice are sponsors. Participants may learn what services are available to caregivers in Rangeley and the surrounding areas. They may also receive information from a variety of agencies and gain a better understanding of these resources. Free bone density testing and blood pressure screening will also be available.

Class reunion

FARMINGTON – The Mount Blue High School Class of 1994 will hold its 10th year reunion from 7 p.m. to midnight Aug. 7 at the Granary Brew Pub. There will be a DJ, Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The cost is $15 per person.
