NAPLES – Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical “Oklahoma!” is coming to an area stage this month.

The actors, dancers, singers and musicians of Lake Region High School are presenting this beloved musical drama at the high school March 25 to 28.

The show includes such memorable songs as “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning,” “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “I Cain’t Say No,” “The Farmer and the Cowman,” “Out of My Dreams,” “Kansas City” and “Oklahoma!”

This was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration, and it set a standard for musicals even today. Set in the early 1900s, the rivalry between farmers and cowboys is the backdrop for the love interest of Laurey, the farm girl, and Curly, the handsome cowpoke. Their headstrong romance is as bumpy as a surrey (with a fringe on top) ride down a country road.

The musical is directed by Eugene Long, who’s directed several recent productions at Lake Region, including “West Side Story” and “South Pacific.” The musical is co-produced by Reg and Esther Watkins.

There are five shows: March 25, 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. and March 27 and 28 at 2 p.m. General admission tickets: $8 for adults, $6 for students.

Tickets are available at Bridgton Books or by calling 693-6221.
