FORT MYERS. Fla. – Bates College split a doubleheader with Macalester at Jack Russell Stadium on Friday afternoon, defeating the Scotts 8-0 behind a complete game three-hitter by Mike Kinsman before falling 8-2 in the second game.
Kinsman struck out five over seven innings in the first game, while John O’Neil provided the offense with a pair of doubles, a solo home run and four RBI for the Bobcats (2-1).
Charlie Engrasser drilled three safeties and Matt Peterson went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the shutout.
John Ribas took the loss in the second game. Drew McKenna, Engrasser, and Owen Miehe each went 2-for-3 in the loss.
USM 7, Wheaton 7
TAMPA, Fla. – Wheaton College took advantage of five hits, a walk and a pair of errors to score five runs in the top of the eighth inning to knot the score at 7-7 against the University of Southern Maine in a game called after nine innings due to darkness.
Trailing 7-2 heading into the eighth, Jesse Woods doubled to lead off and chase starter Tip Fairchild from the game. Joe DeMart singled, putting runners at the corners as Joe Ambrosini doubled to score both runners. Mark Baumer followed with another double, driving in Ambrosini, and a pair infield of errors accounted for the final runs.

USM sweeps
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Southern Maine swept a pair of games Friday, handing Trinity College a 9-0 setback and completing the sweep with a 6-1 win over SUNNY-Oneonta at the Lee County Complex.
Game 1 saw the Huskies score six runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. They were led by Kristen Tong with a pair of hits and two RBI and Darci Holand also drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Melissa Henderson picked up her first win with relief help from Lindsey Booker.
USM completed the sweep as Kari Vance held the Red Dragons to a single run. Tong was the only repeat hitter for the Huskies in the night cap and improved to 3-1 on the season.
