NEWARK, N.J. – James E. McKenna Jr. of Bayonne, N.J., died Friday, March 19, at Beth Israel Hospital.

Born in Portland, he lived in Bayonne for 57 years. He worked for American Can, Jersey City, for 27 years, retiring in 1977.

He was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1941 to 1945, spending two years in Burma, China and India.

He was a member of American Legion Post #165 and Bayonne Knights of Columbus Council #371.

He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church.

He is survived by four sons, Walter, James, Peter and Raymond; two brothers, the Rev. Raymond McKenna of Portland, and Peter McKenna; a sister, Jean Libby; and nine grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred (Jones) McKenna; and one brother, Lewis McKenna.
