AUGUSTA – The Manchester Lions’ Club annual Home and Garden Show will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 2, 3 and 4, at the Augusta Civic Center. It will feature more than 180 home and garden exhibitor booths and the new flower and garden showplace in the north wing.

The doors will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission for adults is $6; under age 16, free. Food concessions will be open. All proceeds will go to support a variety of community programs sponsored by the Lions Club.

Bird classes

FALMOUTH – Maine Audubon will offer classes on learning the basics of bird biology.

From 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, April 6, 13, 20 and May 4, Introduction to Ornithology will be held at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center. A field trip to apply class knowledge is set for Saturday, May 8.

Dr. Herb Wilson, a biology professor at Colby College, will teach the course designed for novice and experienced birders. The class is $115 for Maine Audubon members, $140 for nonmembers. AKC dog show

ACTON – The annual American Kennel Club All-Breed and Obedience Dog Show, sponsored by the York County Kennel Club of Maine Inc., will be held from April 30 to May 2 at the Action Fair Grounds as the venue for its spring event.

A Breed and Obedience Fun Match will be held Friday followed by a Canine Good Citizenship Evaluation. Both are free to the public. The show will begin at 7a.m. Saturday and run until 5 p.m. Sunday. Refreshments will be provided by the Sanford Lions Club.

Herb Fest

UNITY – The 10th annual Herb Fest, sponsored by Herb Fest of Maine, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Common Ground fairgrounds.

Herbal enthusiasts can spend a day going to classes and herb walks for the admission of $6.

The festival is planned by five volunteers: Karla Bock of Hoof and Paw Farm, New Sharon; Ernie Glabau of Entwood Farm and Nursery, Burnham; Linda Nelson of Stony Brook Herb Farm, Fayette; Janet Edwards of Mountain Mama of Maine, Anson; and Katharyn Dunham, of ParaGraphs indexing and editorial services, Phillips. There will be 50 vendors, more than 15 classes, food and children’s activities.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, Herb Fest will hold a party at 2 p.m. when there will be a contra dance with the Racket Factory and the caller, John McIntire.
