UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Michael Peca and Adrian Aucoin scored 2:46 apart late in the third period and Rick DiPietro made 29 saves in the New York Islanders’ 3-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

Aucoin set up Peca’s goal with 8:19 remaining and then knocked in a rebound of Alexei Yashin’s shot at 14:27 to make it 3-0.

It was Tampa Bay’s second loss in two days, having blown a three-goal lead Saturday at Boston in a 5-4 defeat. The Lightning are clinging to a one-point lead over Philadelphia atop the Eastern Conference, with each club having six games remaining. Boston, with seven games left, trails by two points.

The Lightning have lost four times in five games – including twice to the Islanders in six days. Tampa Bay earned points in 18 straight games before this skid.

Blackhawks 2, Coyotes 2

CHICAGO – Mike Comrie’s power-play goal midway through the second period allowed the Phoenix Coyotes to rally from a two-goal deficit and tie the Chicago Blackhawks 2-2 on Sunday.

Comrie poked the puck into a half-empty net after Chicago goalie Michael Leighton made a save on Paul Mara’s shot from the slot. The rebound went to Dan Cleary, who fed a cross-ice pass to Comrie.

Cleary also scored for the Coyotes, whose winless streak reached 15 games (0-8-4-3).

Penguins 4, Rangers 3

PITTSBURGH – Aleksey Morozov scored a power-play goal in overtime for the second consecutive game, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat New York 4-3 Sunday in a game marked by the ejection of Rangers captain Mark Messier.

With New York’s Boris Mironov in the penalty box for hooking, Morozov took a pass from Lasse Pirjeta and scored his 15th goal of the season with 7.9 seconds left.

Pittsburgh is now unbeaten in its last six games at home (5-0-1-0), while the Rangers are winless in their last six overall (0-3-0-3).

Messier was ejected at 6:13 of the second period for spearing defenseman Martin Strbak in front of the Pittsburgh net during a Rangers power play. Moments earlier, Strbak had cross-checked Messier near the bottom of the left circle in the Penguins’ zone.
