FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Animal Shelter has selected a beagle as this week’s pet of the week. Mabel easily brings a smile to anyone who comes in contact with her, the staff says.
Mabel came to the shelter as a stray right before the shelter was closed for the quarantine back at the beginning of February. She is a petite Beagle, only standing about 13 inches tall and weighing in at roughly 20 pounds. Although she is small, she is packed with personality.
Mabel is inquisitive and likes following her nose, usually to the doggie treats, the staff says, as she definitely loves her treats.
She walks great on a leash and enjoys sniffing around the outdoors. Mabel likes the company of other dogs, as long as they don’t play too rough with her. She has become good pals with a recent Pet of the Week, Tanner, whose company she enjoys immensely, because he is calm and laid back.
Mabel is an older dog but with many years left to enjoy. She came to the shelter looking healthy and continues to look so. Her coat is soft and shiny, her eyes are clear of any cloudiness, but her teeth could use a good brushing.
Mabel would be the perfect apartment dog because she is so tiny and the staff suspects that she may be house broken, because she never goes to the bathroom in her kennel.
So, if Mabel sounds like the girl for you, call the shelter for more information at 778-2638.
