TEMPLE – The Bread and Puppet Theater of Vermont will perform political street shows starting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 29, at the Temple Stream Theater.
In commemoration of the beginning of the bombing in Iraq one year ago, the troupe will present “Three or More Parables of Danger,” an evening of antiwar theater. A revival of the Bread and Puppet rod puppet opera, “The King Story,” will be presented along with a street theater piece called “A Man Says Goodbye to His Mother.” Both puppet shows were created during the Vietnam war.
Also in the program is “Three Parables of Danger,” a “singing story” painted on banners. This street theater piece was deployed during the nuclear-freeze campaign.
To add some levity to the evening, The Rotten Idea Theater Company, a troupe of slapstick clowns, also will perform. The puppeteers will also provide musical interludes with their six-piece brass band.
The group is asking a donation of $5 apiece, but a spokesman says no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Children are welcome but should warned about loud noises and scary moments.
