LIVERMORE – Selectpersons have approved a draft of the agreement on Batten Road and expect to sign the warrant at their March 29 meeting.

Public access to the Batten Road, which has been a source of controversy for well over a year, will be taken to the people again at a special town meeting at 7 p.m. April 7 at the Community Building.

“The goal of the draft was to set into writing the verbal agreement that had been made some years ago,” explained Administrative Assistant Kurt Schaub.

Now that the board has approved the elements, he will ask the town’s attorney, Lee Bragg, to review them. “I don’t anticipate asking for the agreement to actually be drawn up prior to the special town meeting,” Schaub said, as it would only be a wasted expense if voters do not approve them.

The draft includes general road specifications such as width and base/surface, measurable progress and an annual report to the board.

In turn, the town would allow the easement to be mined, the road to be gated with access open to ATVs, snowmobiles and pedestrians for five yeas from the time of adoption by the voters.

The board has given its approval to a proposal by Joseph Roy of Boy Scout Troop 199 to build a set of bleachers for the recreation field as his Eagle Scout service project.

Roy’s model of the bleachers indicates they would consist of four tiers, 12 feet long, 6 feet deep and 4 feet high. He plans to seek donations of materials and funds for the project, if necessary.

Estimates have been received for repairs to the town’s loader. Wallingford Equipment will do some with the remainder to be coordinated with a local machine shop.

Code Enforcement Officer Richard Marble reports he found 11 lots from subdivisions that were not on the tax maps and were, therefore, not being taxed as separate lots.

He also has found that a camp built on the Long Pond side of Lakeshore Motel is in violation of the town’s minimum lot size ordinance and must be recombined with the larger lot.
