FARMINGTON – Selectmen plan to meet Tuesday with state authorities to discuss responsibilities of maintaining a rail-trail bridge and trail.

Board members are also scheduled to hear an update on the dangerous building located at 145 North St., Blueberry Hill Apartment No. 22, review a proposed 2004 sewer budget, and discuss funding additional social service agencies through the Franklin County budget.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building with a public hearing on a proposed town revolving loan fund and management plan.

Maine Department of Transportation representative John Balicki and Maine Department of Conservation representative David Roderiques will discuss maintaining the proposed rail-trail bridge and trail improvements.

A rail-trail committee is proposing to rebuild a bridge over the Sandy River to connect West Farmington to Farmington and to upgrade a 14.5-mile trail from Jay to Farmington. They’re hoping to receive a grant to cover the bulk of expenses.

Town Manager Richard Davis previously recommended that selectmen find out who would be responsible for liability and maintaining the bridge and trail if improvements are made.

Selectmen plan to consider a $1.08 million sewer budget for 2004, which is about the same as last year, Davis said.

Farmington Recreation Director Steve Shible is also expected to make a pitch to use the stage area at the Community Center for a batting cage.
