FT. MYERS, Fla. – The University of Southern Maine softball team split a pair of extra-inning games Monday in Ft. Myers to run their record to 6-2 on the season.

In the first game, Katie Mainville hurled a complete game and Renee Heath drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to give the Huskies a 4-3 triumph over Lawrence University.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater snapped the Huskies’ (6-2) five-game winning streak in the second game when Erin Bravo drove in the winning run un the bottom of the eigth inning for a 3-2 victory. Lauren Morstad picked up her second win of the season pitching four hitless innings of relief for the Warhawks (4-1) win.

Baseball

Southern Maine 8, Williams 3

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Joe McGhee had four hits and drove in three runs to lead the University of Southern Maine past Williams College 8-3 in a non-conference game played Monday afternoon.

Ryan Bourque recorded two RBIs, while Brian Marshall, Tip Fairchild, and Joe Ganley each picked up an RBI single for the Huskies (2-3-1) victory.

The Williams (2-2) effort was paced by John Silvestro and Tom Burbidge each hitting an RBI single.

Jason Thibodeau allowed six hits and two walks in 6.2 innings to pick up the win for the Huskies and even his record at 1-1. Erik Kent went the final 2.1 innings to pick up the save.
