The “interactive health fair” will feature the latest on women’s health issues.
LEWISTON – “Every Day in a Woman’s Life,” a special event for women, will be hosted by Central Maine Medical Center from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3.
Conceived as an “interactive health fair,” the event will feature numerous activities designed to appeal to women of all ages, according to Tina Quinn, director of women’s and children’s services for the Central Maine Medical Family.
The medical family is comprised of CMMC, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital. Bridgton and Rumford hospitals will also sponsor events on that day.
“Participants will have the opportunity to get the latest information on women’s health issues. They will have the opportunity to learn a new craft, learn about healthy eating, receive a back massage and hand massage, be exposed to beauty tips and participate in other activities,” Quinn said.
The event will feature kiosks on quilting, knitting, scrap-booking, keeping plants and growing herbs. Health-related activities will include breast health, Scorekeeper cardiac risk and osteoporosis screenings. Information regarding healthy relationships, bladder health, healthy living and journaling will be provided.
For those caring for babies, a massage therapist will be available to teach infant massage.
Exercise and fitness demonstrations will include yoga, aerobics and kickboxing. Some exercise classes have been designed for women and children to do together.
A cosmetology exhibit will focus on activities and products that can enhance physical beauty.
A highlight will be a supervised activities area for children that will offer an opportunity to create a take-home craft. It will also allow mothers to interact while their children are occupied.
The daty will also feature a women’s bookstore. Also making an appearance at the fair will be members of Red Hat Ladies USA, a nationwide social network that Quinn describes as “most bodacious.”
Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded by lottery.
“Every Day in a Woman’s Life” will be held in the CMMC Conference Center on the ground floor of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building. Anyone seeking more information should call Tina Quinn at 795-7524.
