BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – University of Vermont men’s basketball star Taylor Coppenrath was named Tuesday to
the Associated Press men’s college basketball All-America team for the second season in a row.
The 6-foot-9 junior forward from West Barnet was picked as an honorable mention on the team headed by University of Connecticut’s Emeka Okafor and Jameer Nelson of Saint Joseph’s.
Teammate T.J. Sorrentine of Pawtucket, R.I., was named to the team in 2002.
Coppenrath ranks fourth in the nation in scoring with 24.1 points per game.
Out for seven games this season with a broken wrist, he returned to score 43 points and lead Vermont to a 72-53 victory over Maine in the America East Conference championship, earning the team a return to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year.
Coppenrath also was named national unsung player of the year on Tuesday and to the national mid-major All American team by CollegeInsider.com.
