LEWISTON – Tuesday night, Lorraine and Hal Chase and their daughter’s friend Lindsay Cloud were at the Colisee for the third game in the Maineiacs’ best of seven playoff series against Rouyn-Noranda.

The fact that it was the second game in four days for the family may not seem like anything incredible, until you realize that their first game, Saturday’s second game, was in Rouyn-Noranda.

“It was on a whim,” Lorraine said. “We decided at the last minute.”

On Friday, Lorraine and her daughter Nicole picked up Cloud at the airport. On their way home to Lisbon, the women came up with a crazy idea. So crazy, in fact, they called home immediately to Lorraine’s husband, Hal.

“We were talking about it on the way home from the airport,” Lorraine said. “Lindsay called up my husband and started explaining the idea.”

“I actually was in the middle of a load of laundry,” Hal said. “All I said when they told me the idea was ‘Oh my God.'”

Hal immediately went online and started poking around for available tickets at Dave Keon Arena. To his surprise, there were several left.

“I called them up to make sure,” Hal said. “they said they had plenty, so I looked at the mileage.”

Seeing 660 miles on the website, he rolled his eyes. And then he went to bed.

“We all went to bed early,” Lorraine said. “We got up at two in the morning and were out the door by four.”

They caught some grief from Huskies’ fans, of course. Some of the fans even threatened to throw beverages at the family, who went clad in their white Maineiacs jerseys.

“The staff there was great,” Hal said. “But the fans, I think they were a bit upset we were so vocal.”

On the way back, the family hit three snowstorms on Sunday, but remained open to making another trip during the playoffs.

“Hey, we did this one,” Lorraine said. “The rest of them are all closer, so maybe again in the next round.”
