DUNEDIN, Fla. – The University of Southern Maine squandered a four-run lead in the top of the sixth inning before rallying for five runs in the bottom half of the inning on the way to a 9-6 victory over Chicago.

The Huskies (3-3-1) were cruising along through the first five innings behind sophomore left-hander Sam Handy before the Maroons (4-4) struck for six runs in the top of the sixth.

Senior Nick Kocinski greeted freshman Josh Armandi with an RBI single to make it 4-2. Tip Fairchild came on in relief of Armandi to give up a walk and a bases-loaded double to Ben McCown before settling down to get the next two batters. A two-out infield error brought home the sixth Chicago run.

The Huskies came right back to score five times. Nick Vadaro and Adam Lemieux had consecutive RBI singles to regain the lead for USM, and freshman Joe McGhee capped off the rally with a two-run double.

Colby 7, Middlebury 3

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Tyler Hales worked five innings and Tom Salemy added two hits to lift Colby to a 7-3 win over Middlebury in the opening game of a collegiate baseball doubleheader Tuesday.

Middlebury bounced back for a 10-4 win in the nightcap.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Miki Starr smacked an RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning to send Michaelyn Bortolotti across the plate and lift Colby to a 2-1 win over Middlebury College.

USM 11, Albright 2

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Renee Heath and Kristen Tong combines for five RBIs to pace the University of Southern Maine to an 11-2 rout over Albright College in women’s softball action Tuesday.

Albright (4-5) jumped to an early 1-0 lead on a solo homer by Megan Colon. Southern Maine (7-2) answered with a two-run homer from Heath to grab a 2-1 lead in the top of the second. The Huskies extended their lead 4-2 through four innings of play, before turning seven singles, a sacrifice bunt and four Albright errors into seven runs in the top of the fifth.

USM 2, Union 1

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Katie Mainville scattered six hits and held off a late-game rally to preserve a 2-1 win for Southern Maine over Union College.

Jessie Becher provided the Huskies (8-2) with a 1-0 lead in the first, when she drew a walk, took third on an infield error and came home on a single by Heath.

Bates 18, USM 3

LEWISTON – Lori Jessup netted four goals to lead Bates to a 18-3 win over the University of Southern Maine.

Jessup now leads the Bobcats (4-2) with 15 goals and 16 points in six games. Sonija Parson added three goals and an assist for Bates, while Erica Nason and Carrie Smith each scored three goals. Erin Culbreth contributed to the win with a pair of goals.

Amanda Loomis, Elicia Biczak and Emily Kirkland tallied single goals for the Huskies (0-1).

Union 19, Colby 14

WELLINGTON, Fla. – Kathy Dolezal netted seven goals to lead Union College to a 19-14 victory over Colby in non-conference play Tuesday.

Courtney Drake and Kelsey Neville both had three goals for 17th-ranked Colby (0-3). Emma Miller had two goals and one assist, while Kate Wheeler chipped in with a goal and two assists.

The Mules also received a pair of goals from Julia Benedict, and one each from Libba Cox and Cara Dionisi. Catherine O’Brien turned back six shots in net for the Mules.
