AUBURN – The Capt. Frank W. Hulett Post 1603, VFW, and Auxiliary will join to raise awareness and funds for the VFW National Home for Children, the favorite charity of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Post 1603 will sponsor breakfasts and a ham raffle for the community to celebrate and to honor the home.
The breakfasts will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Sundays, March 28, April 11 and 25, at the post home, 588 Minot Ave. Prices will go from $2.50 to $3.50 for the “works” breakfast: two pancakes, two eggs, two bacons and sausages, juice and coffee.
The ham raffle will be held at the post home starting at 7 p.m. Friday, April 9, preceded by a smothered beef dinner from 5 to 6:30. Cost will be $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12. Raffle tickets, $1 each or six for $5, may be picked up at the post or by asking any member. Raffle prizes are a 10-pound ham with all the fixings for dinner; second prize, six- to eight-pound ham. There will also be a ham given as a door prize.
Located in Eaton Rapids, Mich., the national home is a neighborhood of individual family homes built by VFW and Auxiliary members for the children and families of veterans. Since 1925, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of veterans have lived at the home with their single parent or with child care workers in a traditional home setting.
