The equipment will be installed on the stage of the Community Center.

FARMINGTON – Selectmen approved a portable batting tunnel to be installed on the stage of the Community Center.

The board also agreed Tuesday to give an apartment complex owner a 30-day extension until April 19 to replace a door as a second means of egress.

Brian James, a local coach, suggested the batting tunnel be put on the stage instead of on the gym floor after he read selectmen’s hesitancy to turn the Community Center stage into an indoor skateboard area.

Some selectmen had voiced concern over liability, supervision and changing the character of the stage area.

The seasonal batting tunnel could be installed and be moved within hours if the stage was needed, Town Manager Davis said.

Davis said selectmen granted Blueberry Apartment a 30-day extension on an order to correct several deficiencies, including repairing a second egress from apartment No. 22 and bringing in a portable toilet for a toilet that constantly backed up until the sewer pump station could be fixed.

Owners have done nearly everything on the list, Davis said, accept replace a door as a means of a second egress.

The tenant had to tape the door shut because it leaked.

Selectmen decided the weather is getting warmer so the tape and plastic could be removed and the door could be used, Davis said, until it is repaired.

The pump station still needs to be repaired, Davis said, but the tenant is satisfied with the portable facility until it is.
