Officials at the Auburn college received the threat by phone Wednesday night.
AUBURN – Police were searching cars and patrolling the grounds Wednesday night after officials at Central Maine Community College received a threat of violence at the school.
Shortly before sundown, Auburn police officers were called in to work overtime at the 1250 Turner St. school.
Officers examined cars and trucks coming into the school lot, searching for dangerous items or suspicious people. Other cops patrolled inside and outside the technical college.
Police said school officials had received a threat earlier in the day, but did not say what type of threat it was. School spokespersons could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.
By 8 p.m., police said there was no indication of trouble at the 1,700 student school, where classes typically wrap up for the day by 9 p.m.
However, with some students living on campus, police were expecting to remain at the school throughout the night.
